Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge Unveils New Family Suite

Lemala Camps & Lodges has completed a renovation of its Kuria Hills Lodge, set among the granite kopjes of Tanzania’s remote Wogakuria Hill.

The centerpiece of the renovation is the new two-bedroom suite. Built on the site of the former spa, this family-friendly compound features a private plunge pool, contemporary interiors and generous living space, giving multi-generational groups a way to stay together without sacrificing privacy.

Its addition brings Kuria Hills in line with the rest of Lemala’s Tanzania portfolio, which already offers two-bedroom family accommodation elsewhere.

The renovation has also seen the spa has moved to a new spot on the property, and the expansion of the main dining tent to improve flow between the dining, bar and lounge areas while maintaining the space’s panoramic outlook.

Lemala frames the project as reinvestment rather than expansion. “This renovation was about looking at what Kuria Hills already does so well and finding thoughtful ways to enhance it, rather than adding more to the landscape,” says Leanne Haigh, CEO of Lemala Camps & Lodges. “By reimagining existing spaces, we have been able to create a more flexible offering for families while also improving the spa and dining experiences, all within the lodge’s established footprint.”

Kuria Hills sits inside the main corridor of the Great Migration near the Mara River, making it a perfect July-to-October address for river-crossing season, while the wider Northern Serengeti holds strong wildlife viewing year-round.

Further south, the calving season runs November to April, drawing predators to newborn wildebeest and zebra across the greener plains. This positioning gives safari travellers two distinct windows to plan around depending on which spectacle they’re chasing.

With a complement of game drives, walking safaris and even hot-air balloon safaris, travellers based in Asia will find a migration-season trip to Kuria Hills lines up well against Asia-Pacific’s own school holiday calendar, and the corridor’s comparatively low visitor density is worth more to travellers coming from a long-haul region than a marginally shorter flight elsewhere in East Africa.

With the renovation complete, Kuria Hills reopens with more flexibility for families without adding a single new structure to its wilderness footprint, a model Lemala says will guide how it develops its other properties going forward.
