Perfect for wildlife and travel photography, Sony’s new RX10 V is a one-stop shop for brilliant photos and videos on the go.
Sony has announced the RX10 V, the fifth-generation model in its RX10 series of all-in-one cameras, bringing AI-powered autofocus and a wider battery life to the line’s signature superzoom design.
A Single Lens Covering Wide-Angle to Super-Telephoto
The RX10 V is built around a ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 24-600mm lens with a 25x optical zoom and a fast F2.4-4.0 aperture, letting photographers move from landscapes to distant wildlife without changing lenses. The lens supports macro shooting from as close as 3cm at the wide end and tele-macro shooting from 72cm at full zoom.
Stills are captured on a 1.0-type stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor with approximately 20.1 effective megapixels, paired with Sony’s BIONZ XR image processing engine for reduced noise at mid-to-high ISO settings. The camera includes 12 Creative Look presets for in-camera colour and texture adjustment, along with an updated D-Range Optimiser offering strength settings up to Lv8 for balancing highlights and shadows in backlit scenes.
New AI-Driven Autofocus and Burst Shooting
The headline addition is Real-time Recognition AF, powered by a dedicated AI processing unit. The system recognises humans, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains, and aeroplanes, and includes an Auto mode that identifies the subject type automatically. Human pose estimation technology allows the camera to track subjects even when they’ve turned away or their faces are obscured.
Sony says the RX10 V performs AF/AE calculations up to 60 times per second and supports blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 30 fps with full autofocus and auto-exposure tracking, along with a Continuous Shooting Speed Boost function that lets users adjust burst speed mid-shoot.
4K 120p Video and Creator-Focused Features
On video, the RX10 V supports 4K 120p recording, enabling slow-motion playback at up to 5x in 4K resolution, along with Active Mode image stabilisation for handheld footage. An Auto Framing function uses the camera’s subject recognition to keep footage centred automatically during recording. The camera also supports S-Cinetone colour profiles, S-Log3 for post-production grading, and up to 16 importable user LUTs. A Multi Interface (MI) Shoe with digital audio support is included for compatible microphones.
Design Updates and Battery Life
Sony has redesigned the RX10 V’s body around the button layout and grip philosophy of its α™ mirrorless series, alongside an eight-direction multi-selector. The electronic viewfinder has been upgraded to a larger 0.5-type Quad-VGA OLED panel with approximately 3.68 million dots and 0.78x magnification, while the rear LCD monitor now offers approximately 1.62 million dots.
Battery life has also improved. Using the NP-FZ100 rechargeable battery, the RX10 V is rated for approximately 630 shots per charge, an increase of roughly 50% or more over its predecessor.
Connectivity and Availability
The camera includes a dust- and moisture-resistant design, Wi-Fi (2.4/5 GHz) for data transfer, and USB Type-C connectivity supporting 4K 30p live streaming. It is also the first RX10 model to support Sony’s Creators’ App, which allows users to send files to a smartphone or the cloud, control the camera remotely, and update its software and features.
