If you’ve ever stood in a hotel bathroom wrestling with a wall-mounted dryer that takes 20 minutes to produce lukewarm air, Dyson has built something specifically for you.
The innovative brand has launched the Supersonic Travel, the first travel-specific version of its flagship hair dryer, and it addresses pretty much every gripe frequent travellers have about drying their hair on the road.
It’s 32% more compact and 25% lighter than the standard Supersonic, weighing in at around 330g — roughly the same as a can of soda — which means it fits comfortably in a handbag or carry-on without significant sacrifice to your luggage allowance.
The performance credentials are serious for a device this size. A high-speed digital motor spins at up to 110,000 rpm, and Dyson’s Air Multiplier technology generates what the brand describes as a high-pressure, high-velocity airflow — a long way from the tepid gusts most hotel dryers manage. Dyson says 94% of users in testing agreed it outperforms a typical hotel dryer, which, frankly, is a low bar to clear, but the underlying technology here is the same that powers its full-size models.
The headline practical feature for international travellers is automatic voltage adaptation across 100–240V, meaning no bulky adapters and no blown fuses — it simply adjusts itself to wherever you’ve landed.
The dryer also carries over Dyson’s intelligent heat control from the main Supersonic line, measuring air temperature 100 times per second to prevent the kind of extreme heat that damages hair over time. It comes with a smoothing nozzle as standard, and is compatible with attachments from both the Supersonic and Supersonic Nural ranges, so your usual styling routine transfers intact.
Dyson founder James Dyson described the brief as a re-engineering rather than a simple size reduction: “We didn’t just shrink a hair dryer — we re-engineered it for travel — boosting portability while maintaining high performance and fast drying.”
