TRUNK(HOTEL), the Tokyo boutique brand known for reading a city’s culture into its design, will open TRUNK(HOTEL) SAPPORO in central Sapporo’s Odori district in time for next year’s ski season.
As Trunk’s fourth hotel and its largest, the new property promises to be a design-led boutique anchor for the city’s downtown district. While TRUNK’s Tokyo properties trade on urban energy, the Sapporo hideaway will translate Hokkaido’s snow, forests and food culture with lines by Tokyo studio General Design Co and Trunk’s in-house creative team, TRUNK Atelier.
The result promises guest rooms, designed around a theme called “Midcentury Folklore”, featuring warm wood and craft details that bring guests closer to nature than a city-centre tower usually allows.
The headline addition is TRUNK(BATH HOUSE), conceived as a “utopia of water” with ten shared bathing areas across a dedicated floor, each tuned with its own lighting, sound and water temperature, plus separate men’s and women’s zones with communal baths, saunas, cold plunges and open-air relaxation space.
Dining leads with Michelin-recognised Sushi Saito‘s first Sapporo counter, pairing traditional Tokyo technique with Hokkaido seafood, alongside all-day dining built around regional ingredients and a Lounge & Bar with live piano and a terrace under transparent domes for snow-season dining.
Also look out for the Private Studio floor, a captivating cinema and karaoke room.
For travelers from across Asia, Sapporo’s appeal has always leaned heavily on winter and a design-forward hotel with its own bathhouse gives that trip a reason to extend beyond ski season. The September 2027 opening also puts TRUNK(HOTEL) SAPPORO in place just ahead of Hokkaido’s autumn foliage and the winter season that follows.
