Travellers are going to love the new-look First, Business and Economy cabins coming to Etihad’s A330 fleet
Developed as part of Etihad Airways‘ Beyond Borders guest experience programme, the new cabins will feature First suites with closing doors, lie-flat Business seats and a redesigned Economy cabin.
The A330 debut anchors a broader US$20 billion investment in new aircraft and customer experience, including a US$1 billion fleet retrofit programme. Beyond Borders will extend the same design language to Etihad’s A321LR single-aisle jets and, over time, to lounges, dining, amenities, wellbeing and connectivity across the wider guest journey in a bid for more consistency across an airline mid-expansion.
The New A330 Experience
Etihad’s new A330 enters service from September 2027, with 15 aircraft joining the fleet over five years to support regional and medium-haul growth. The three-cabin layout leads with four First suites, each with a closing door, space for a companion to dine, a 32-inch screen, wireless charging and a personal powder station stocked with amenities guests can take with them.
In addition, Business Class will offer 24 fully lie-flat, forward-facing seats with direct aisle access, sliding doors and 17.3-inch screens, while Economy’s 252 seats include 13.3-inch 4K touchscreens and a 32-seat Extra Legroom section with four additional inches of pitch.
Doubling Down on First
Etihad is expanding First across the fleet through new aircraft and retrofit programmes, building on the A321LR’s single-aisle First suites and lie-flat Business seats (the airline’s flagship First Apartments and The Residence remain exclusive to the A380). The new cabins draw on a “sand to superstructure” design concept rooted in Abu Dhabi, with sconce lighting inspired by Etihad’s facet pattern, perforated leather seating and First seat numbers projected onto the cabin floor.
For travellers based in Asia’s major hubs, the A330 rollout is directly relevant: Etihad has positioned the aircraft on routes spanning Europe, Asia and the Middle East, meaning the new First and Business cabins are likely to appear on regional connections routed through Abu Dhabi, a hub many Asia-Pacific travellers already use for onward journeys to Europe and Africa.
The first Beyond Borders A330 cabins begin flying from September 2027, with further products and experiences to be revealed in the coming months.
