Ajowa Resort & Spa Seminyak: Bali’s Terracotta Hideaway

With just ten private pool villas, Ajowa Resort & Spa Seminyak swaps Bali’s grand gestures for sculpted terracotta, quiet gardens and grounded luxury.

Resort: Ajowa Resort & Spa Seminyak | Location: Jalan Umalas Lestari No. 88, Kerobokan Kelod, Bali, Indonesia | Room Type: Grand One Bedroom Villa with Private Pool | Rating: ★★★★★

Hidden away from the bustle but minutes from one of Bali’s most vibrant enclaves, Ajowa Resort & Spa Seminyak‘s sculptural pool villas, rooftop Japanese restaurant and intimate spa offer the perfect escape on the Island of the Gods. We check in to find out why.

Location: Seminyak’s Quieter Side

Ajowa Resort & Spa Seminyak: Bali's Terracotta Hideaway

Seminyak has never been short of villas, but finding one that feels actually restful, rather than simply walled off from those maniacal scooters, is another matter. Ajowa Resort & Spa Seminyak solves this by sitting just beyond the fray, on Jalan Umalas Lestari in Kerobokan Kelod, the green, residential pocket where Seminyak gives way to Umalas‘s rice fields and Canggu‘s cafés.

Opened in mid-2026, it’s the newest property from Bali-based iNi ViE Hospitality (whose collection also includes La Mewali in Canggu and Equipiose in Ubud), and the location strikes a smart balance. Petitenget’s beach clubs, the boutiques of Jalan Kayu Aya and Seminyak’s best restaurants are a short drive away, as is Canggu, yet the resort itself is hushed. Ngurah Rai International Airport is about 16 km away. I’d suggest asking the resort to arrange your private transfer, and to allow around 50 minutes in traffic before you can slip into Bali mode proper.

Design and Architecture: Organic Modernism

With just ten private pool villas, Ajowa Resort & Spa Seminyak swaps Bali's grand gestures for sculpted terracotta, quiet gardens and grounded luxury.

Ajowa describes its look as “eco luxury organic modernism“, and for once the label fits. The resort is built around biophilic principles, with nature shaping the spaces through daylight, greenery, water and cross-breezes rather than air-conditioned isolation.

The signature material is terracotta (a real surprise on an island increasingly dominated by white-washed concrete), moulded into elegant sculptural curves and arches that glow amber at dusk and change tone as the sun moves across them. This soul-warming effect is paired with warm oak, natural stone and handwoven accents, and softened by dense tropical planting that makes each villa feel like a clearing in a garden.

At Ajowa you’ll quickly notice that unlike in cities, hard edges are rare; doorways, walls and even the beds are rounded and the overall effect is understated and tactile, more design hotel than traditional Balinese compound. For those serving their feed, it photographs beautifully without ever feeling staged.

Villas: Ten Private Pool Villas

With just ten private pool villas, Ajowa Resort & Spa Seminyak swaps Bali's grand gestures for sculpted terracotta, quiet gardens and grounded luxury.

With just ten villas, Ajowa favours intimacy over scale, and every key comes with its own pool, something that’s becoming increasingly rare in Seminyak.

Grand One Bedroom Villa with Private Pool

Nine of the ten villas are one-bedroom pool villas, and it’s one of these that we stayed in. Designed for couples and spanning around 85 sqm, the villa is a lesson in how good design can make a modest footprint feel generous. The centrepiece is a round king-size bed set within sculpted terracotta walls. A sunken lounge invites lazy afternoons with a book, and the open-air bath brings the garden right into the bathroom ritual.

Glass doors open onto a terrace and a secluded private pool wrapped in lush planting, so mornings started with a swim and evenings ended with a drink on the deck (and another dip, it was balmy!) Housekeeping offers a turndown service each evening to keep things inside civil, and the resort’s E-Butler service (via a Whatsapp chat) handles everything from dinner bookings to taxis. It is an ideal villa for couples and honeymooners.

Grand Two Bedroom Villa with Private Pool

The resort’s single two-bedroom villa is designed for those who prefer company. Its living spaces wrap around a curved pool set in a central garden courtyard, with two bedrooms providing privacy for families or two couples travelling together.

Liberte Tip: With only one two-bedroom villa, book well ahead for school holidays and festive periods.

Dining: Norii Japanese Restaurant

Ajowa’s signature venue is Norii, a contemporary Japanese restaurant overlooking the resort’s rooftop pool. The kitchen focuses on precise technique, seasonal ingredients and local produce, with yakitori grilled over charcoal as the centrepiece alongside fresh sushi.

Unlike the venues in the thick of Seminyak, the atmosphere is blissfully unhurried, with low lighting and natural textures, ensuring this intimate eatery works equally well for a long lunch or a romantic dinner. Non-residents can dine too, so reserve ahead in peak season.

Breakfast is cooked to order and served from 7 am to 11 am, and for a special occasion the team can set up a candlelit dinner beside your private pool. Of course, man can not live on sushi and smoothie bowls alone, so when you want to venture out, the neighbourhood is one of Bali’s best for eating, with many of Seminyak’s marque restaurants a short drive away while local institution Revolver Coffee is just down the road.

Svaha Spa Ajowa

Ajowa Resort & Spa Seminyak: Bali's Terracotta Hideaway

Svaha Spa, iNi ViE’s in-house spa brand, has an intimate outpost at Ajowa, with just two treatment rooms. The therapists draw on traditional Balinese healing techniques, and the menu runs from massages and body scrubs to detox wraps and facials, as well as private yoga sessions. I’d suggest indulging in the Floating Sound Healing treatment, in which guests float on water while a guide plays resonant tones. It’s a deeply calming session that suits complete beginners. Alternatively, try the Hot Stone Therapy, the antidote after a day spent exploring the island.

The best thing is once your heavenly Balinese massage is complete, you’re just steps from your room rather than a Gojek ride.

Liberte Tip: Couples’ rituals are limited each day because the spa is small, so book on arrival or before you land.

Experiences

The rooftop infinity pool is Ajowa’s social hub, with views across Seminyak’s palm canopy and the best seat in the house for golden hour. Private morning yoga can be arranged at the resort, and the team can also organise romantic surprises and in-villa celebrations.

Beyond the gates, the concierge can book surf lessons at nearby Petitenget Beach, cooking classes, white-water rafting on the Ayung River, horse riding and island tours. Tanah Lot, the famous sea temple, is about 40 minutes away for sunset, while Uluwatu’s cliff-top Kecak dance makes a memorable evening excursion.

The Verdict

With just ten private pool villas, Ajowa Resort & Spa Seminyak swaps Bali's grand gestures for sculpted terracotta, quiet gardens and grounded luxury.

Ajowa Resort & Spa Seminyak is not a sprawling resort, and it does not try to be. Instead, it offers ten beautifully considered villas, a surprisingly good Japanese restaurant and a small but thoughtful spa, all wrapped in some of the most distinctive design in Seminyak. For couples who want privacy, a pool of their own and easy access to Bali’s best dining, it’s one of the most appealing new openings on the island.
