TUI BLUE Berawa Review: A Stylish, Walkable Base in the Heart of Canggu

TUI’s first Indonesian hotel pairs a rooftop infinity pool, spacious villas and a walkable Canggu address. Here’s why TUI BLUE Berawa should be your first stop on the island.

Hotel: TUI BLUE Berawa | Location: Jl. Pantai Berawa No. 101, Tibubeneng, Bali, Indonesia| Room Type: 2-Bedroom Tropique| Rating: ★★★★☆

Canggu has no shortage of places to stay, but few manage to combine the polish of a five-star hotel with the space and privacy of a villa. TUI BLUE Berawa, which opened in late 2024 as the travel group’s first hotel in Indonesia, does both. Set within The Luc, a lifestyle complex in the heart of Berawa, it has 120 rooms and suites alongside 14 private pool villas, a rooftop infinity pool and a surprisingly full line-up of wellness and activity options.

We decided to check in and see whether it lives up to its growing reputation.

The Location

TUI's first Indonesian hotel pairs a rooftop infinity pool, spacious villas and a walkable Canggu address. Here's why TUI BLUE Berawa should be your first stop on the island.

TUI BLUE Berawa sits in the heart of Berawa, the ever-so-slightly sleeper corner of Canggu and one of the most sought-after pockets of Bali’s southwest coast. Here, you’re close enough to the ocean to catch a sea breeze and surrounded by the cafés, restaurants, boutiques, gyms, and beach clubs that have made Canggu a magnet for surfers and sunseekers.

Berawa Beach is roughly a 10- to 15-minute walk away, and so are two of the island’s best-known beach clubs, FINNS and Atlas. The hotel partners with both, so guests benefit from perks such as priority booking and complimentary transfers, which is a real advantage in high season when day beds are hard to secure. When the midday humidity makes walking unappealing, a free buggy shuttles guests around the Berawa area.

Step out of the lobby, and you are on one of Canggu’s liveliest food streets. Brunch cafés, matcha bars, bakeries, smoothie-bowl spots and casual warungs line the road, and a minimart is only a few minutes away for snacks and sunscreen. Further afield, the surf breaks of Batu Bolong and Echo Beach, the café culture of central Canggu, the shops and restaurants of Seminyak and the clifftop sea temple of Tanah Lot are all an easy drive.

The trade-off for such a central address is that this is not a secluded rice-field retreat. Berawa is busy, and the traffic can test your patience, yet once you are through the doors, the hotel feels calm, cool and noticeably quieter than the street outside.

The Rooms

Accommodation is split between the main hotel building and a collection of villas, with interiors that pair clean, contemporary lines with Balinese touches that include warm timber, natural tones and local artwork. Most categories feature oversized 200-by-200-centimetre beds, plus smart TVs with streaming, minibars, tea and coffee makers, bathrobes and slippers.

Deluxe Courtyard and Deluxe Rooms are the entry point, and are well-appointed doubles with the essentials covered; Deluxe Rooms add a private balcony.

Premier Rooms and Premier Terraces measure around 42 square metres and feature a king bed and sofa bed, with the Terrace category adds nights own outdoor space.

Suites step things up. The 80-square-metre Executive Suite has an en-suite with a bathtub and separate shower, plus a daybed that can double as an extra bed for children. Sky Suites come with private terraces and a deep soaking tub, while the Presidential Suite (above) tops the building and includes cavernous living spaces and an expansive terrace.

Villas are where TUI BLUE Berawa really stands apart from its neighbours. There are nine two-bedroom villas and five three-bedroom villas, each with a private pool, tropical garden and fully equipped kitchen, plus spacious living areas that open to the outdoors. The two-bedroom villas range from roughly 197 to 249 square metres, and the three-bedroom villas reach around 327 square metres.

Our Two-Bedroom Stay

Our 249 sqm 2-Bedroom Tropique villa is one of the finest hotel villas I’ve seen on Bali. It’s clearly been designed for sharing without compromise. Each bedroom had its own en-suite bathroom with a bathtub, so there was no queueing for the shower and no negotiating over who got the “good” bathroom. Beyond the large dining table and open-plan kitchen is an extremely generous swimming pool surrounded by tropical gardens and framed by two sun lounges.

For families with older children or two couples travelling together, that level of privacy is what makes the space work. After long, hot days at the beach, sinking into a bath before dinner quickly became a ritual. The shared living area gave us room to spread out, and it felt far more like a home than a hotel room.

Food and Drink

Dining is a central part of the TUI BLUE Berawa experience. The Restaurant is the main venue, with an elevated setting that looks out over Canggu towards the sea and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Breakfast is a highlight. The buffet includes live cooking stations, fresh tropical fruit, pastries and hot dishes, plus a very impressive à la carte menu, and runs from 6.30 am to a very reasonable 10.30 am. Late risers are catered for too: the hotel’s “anytime, anywhere breakfast” concept means you can have breakfast later in the day, including at RR Chocolate, an artisanal chocolate shop within The Luc.

The wider menu moves between Indonesian favourites, broader Asian dishes such as Japanese, Indian and wok-fired plates, and international comfort food, with halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options available. Head chef Indra Pranata is passionate about Balinese heritage cooking, and dishes such as timbungan, spiced meat slow-roasted inside bamboo and traditionally served during Galungan, show the kitchen at its most personal. Dinner is à la carte from 6 pm to 10 pm.

For sundowners, the bar beside the rooftop infinity pool (above) serves cocktails, local beers and an international wine and spirits list, and it is the place to be as the sky turns pink over Canggu. In-room dining runs 24 hours, and villa guests can make use of their kitchens or arrange a private chef experience. Guests also receive offers at partner venues within The Luc, including Monsieur Spoon, and with Berawa’s restaurant scene on the doorstep, you will never run out of options.

However, one venue not to be missed is Hono, the property’s newly arrived social listening lounge and cocktail bar. Ablaze in red neon and stylish furnishings, the venue, the latest in a series of vinyl-inspired lounges on the island, is a welcoming space that transitions through the day.

Check-in formalities take place here while guests enjoy a signature welcome cocktail, and by evening, as the skies over Berawa darken, DJs take to the island decks with a soothing soundtrack of jazz, Bossa, soul, folk and funk (look out for live acts on Fridays), couples battle it out on the pool table, and the bartenders shake up a storm of innovative libations, including the spirit-forward Coconut Old Fashioned and the addictive Pineapple Negroni.

Activities and Amenities

For those travellers who don’t want to spend their holiday poolside, there’s plenty to do at the property and in the surrounding neighbourhood.

The Pools

The rooftop infinity pool is the hotel’s signature space, with panoramic views over Canggu and some of the best sunset seats in the neighbourhood. A second sun deck sits on the third floor beside the restaurant, so even in busier periods, there is usually a lounger to be found. Pool towels are provided, and villa guests also have their own private pools for complete seclusion.

The Gym and Wellness

The gym is open 24 hours and is well equipped with cardio machines, free weights and resistance equipment, making it easy to keep up a routine on holiday. It is complemented by a sauna and ice bath for contrast therapy, a spa offering Balinese and other massage treatments, and a yoga shala that hosts regular sessions.

Padel, Classes and Kids

Padel has taken Bali by storm, and TUI BLUE Berawa has courts right next door within The Luc, with complimentary sessions sometimes included in stays. The daily activity programme is unusually varied for a hotel of this size, with surf lessons, Kecak dance lessons, cooking classes, DJ workshops, guitar lessons, art sessions and movie nights at the Nature Cabin. Bike and scooter hire is available, and families can make use of the kids’ club, playground and babysitting services.

Verdict

TUI's first Indonesian hotel pairs a rooftop infinity pool, spacious villas and a walkable Canggu address. Here's why TUI BLUE Berawa should be your first stop on the island.

Pros

  • The rooftop infinity pool has sunset views over Canggu and plenty of loungers.
  • Two- and three-bedroom options with separate en-suites make it a rare fit for families and friends travelling together.
  • Berawa Beach, FINNS and Atlas are all within walking distance, with a free buggy when the heat wins.
  • A 24-hour gym, sauna, ice bath, yoga and padel give it real wellness credentials.
  • this is one hotel breakfast you don’t want to miss
  • Build quality of the villas is significantly better than many Bali properties

Cons

  • It isn’t beachfront, and the road outside can be congested at peak times.
  • Its central position suits people who want to be in the thick of things more than those seeking seclusion.
  • Communication between staff and guests is still an issue – at one stage, we asked six different staff members about an F&B promotion and got six (sometimes massively) different answers, which was frustrating.
  • The check-in process could be a lot faster
