The Sanāra Spa at Grosvenor House, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Dubai, has reopened as a jewel-toned wellness retreat built around gemstones and Asian craftsmanship.
Step out of the lift at Grosvenor House, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Dubai, and the city noise doesn’t so much fade as get quietly redirected. That’s the effect LW Design Group was going for with its reimagining of Sanāra Spa, a 207-square-metre wellness sanctuary that’s just been given a full design overhaul.
The concept is built around gemstones and chakras, which sounds like it could tip into cliché but plays out here as something more considered. Seven stones — Ruby, Honey Amber, Citrine, Jade, Aquamarine, Lapis Lazuli and Amethyst — set the material and colour palette for each space, so the spa reads as one continuous story told in different keys.
It starts before you’ve even reached the spa itself. The lift lobby, designed as a neutral threshold between the hotel’s residential areas and Sanāra proper, gets a feature pendant developed with Vann Furniture, hung above a custom, colour-popping host stand. From there, corridors lined with gold-brushed bamboo niches display Buddha statues and other artefacts that promise serenity is already on its way.
The individual spaces each take their cue from a different stone. The Veil of Stillness changing rooms lean into Jade’s grounded quality, pairing lava stone vanities with textured wallpaper and raw carved timber. In the Chambers of Renewal, each treatment room is tuned to a specific chakra through its own palette, scent and gemstone reference, using lava stone accents, handmade Japanese Mittsu tiles and antique artworks.
Finally, the Radiance of Renewal relaxation rooms take the softer route, drawing on Amethyst with delicate purple fabrics and custom cherry blossom wallcoverings for the post-treatment wind-down.
Material choice does a lot of the heavy lifting throughout. Pierre Frey fabrics add pattern and softness against the more textural lava stone and tile work, while carved timber and rippled glass screens keep the jewel tones from feeling too polished.
The furniture mixes restored antique pieces sourced from across Asia with new additions carrying carved detailing, tassels, integrated lighting and mother-of-pearl inlay. It’s the kind of layering that makes a newly renovated space feel like it’s been collected over years rather than installed in one go.
Light gets the same attention as everything else. Rippling glass and decorative resin screens let daylight filter through while blurring the view outside, which is really the whole point of a city-center spa: privacy without total enclosure.
Dubai’s spa scene isn’t short on ambition, but Sanāra’s redesign is a useful marker for where hotel wellness is heading regionally — less about adding treatments to a menu, and more about designing the full sequence of arrival, treatment and recovery as one experience.
