From Alpine horse racing on ice to superyachts in Monaco harbour, these are the dates that belong in every discerning traveller’s diary for 2027.
What makes an event truly glamorous? Not just the sport, the art or the films on show. It’s the setting, the sense of occasion, the dress code taken seriously and the feeling that, for a few days, you’re exactly where the world’s most interesting people want to be. The 12 events below, many of which I’ve attended personally, have spent decades, and in some cases centuries, perfecting that formula, making them the perfect catalyst for glamorous travel plans in the year ahead.
1. White Turf, St. Moritz

When: February 2027, from 6 February | Where: Frozen Lake St. Moritz, Engadin Valley, Switzerland
Take the furs out of storage and pack the thermals because there’s no better way to open the social calendar than with the most improbable race meeting on earth. St. Moritz practically invented winter tourism in 1864, when a hotelier persuaded English summer guests to return for the snow, and in 1907, the coveted Kulm Hotel went a step further by staging horse races on its frozen lake. In 2027, White Turf celebrates its 120th anniversary, which makes this the year to go.

The setting is pure Alpine drama. The course is laid out on the ice of Lake St. Moritz, ringed by snow-covered peaks at the heart of the high Engadin Valley, and the town behind it is home to legendary hotels such as Badrutt’s Palace and the Kulm, along with some of Switzerland’s most fashionable boutiques and restaurants.
The racing includes flat and trotting events, but the moment everyone waits for is skikjöring, in which skiers are towed across the ice by galloping, riderless horses at breathtaking speed. Between races, the hospitality marquees pour champagne and serve Alpine fine dining right on the lake, while the furs, mirrored sunglasses and après-ski style make the crowd almost as compelling as the track.

Insider tips: Fly into Zurich and take the train from the city, changing at Chur onto the iconic Glacier Express to reach St. Moritz, a spectacular journey of around three hours, or arrange a private flight into Engadin Airport at Samedan. February is peak season, so book your hotel months ahead. Don’t forget to wear proper snow boots beneath the glamour, as you’ll be standing on ice all day.
2. Dubai World Cup

When: Saturday 27 March 2027 (traditionally the last Saturday in March) | Where: Meydan Racecourse, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Each March, the racing world descends on Dubai. The Dubai World Cup was first run in 1996, created by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to put the emirate on the global racing map. It succeeded spectacularly, and since moving to the purpose-built Meydan Racecourse in 2010 it has become one of the richest race days in the world.

Meydan is built on a suitably grand scale, its vast grandstand topped by a sweeping crescent roof, just a short drive from Downtown Dubai and the Burj Khalifa. The Meydan Hotel overlooks the track itself, so you can watch the racing from your room.
The numbers are extraordinary: the main race carries a purse of around US$12 million, and the full card offers more than US$30 million across Thoroughbred and Purebred Arabian races. The evening typically ends with a fireworks and entertainment show, and the dress is elegant throughout, with hats and sharply tailored suits the norm.

Insider tips: Book hospitality early for the best views. Remember that the UAE’s strict gambling laws mean there’s no traditional public betting. Late March brings warm days and pleasant evenings, so turn the race into a long weekend of beach clubs and fine dining.
3. Cannes Film Festival

When: 11 to 22 May 2027 | Where: Palais des Festivals, Cannes, French Riviera, France
As spring turns to summer, the spotlight shifts to the French Riviera. Cannes was conceived in 1939 as an alternative to the Venice Film Festival, but war intervened and the first edition wasn’t held until 1946. The 2027 festival will be its 80th edition, a milestone that promises one of the most glamorous years in its history.

Everything revolves around the Palais des Festivals and the palm-lined Boulevard de la Croisette, where grand hotels including the Carlton, the Martinez and the Majestic look out over the Mediterranean. A short drive along the coast, the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes remains the ultimate celebrity hideaway.
The red carpet at the Grand Théâtre Lumière is the most photographed in the world, and the Palme d’Or is still cinema’s most prestigious prize. But ask anyone who has been and they’ll tell you the after-dark festival matters just as much, with parties on yachts, private beaches and villa terraces that have become the stuff of legend.

Insider tips: The official festival is largely reserved for accredited industry and invited guests, but anyone can soak up the atmosphere on the Croisette and catch free open-air screenings at the Cinéma de la Plage. If you’re invited to an evening screening, black tie is strictly enforced. Fly into Nice, around 30 minutes away, and book accommodation well in advance.
4. Monaco Grand Prix

When: 4 to 6 June 2027 | Where: Circuit de Monaco, Monte Carlo, Monaco
Just a fortnight after Cannes, the Riviera’s glamour moves a few miles east. The Automobile Club de Monaco held the first Monaco Grand Prix in 1929, and it featured in the very first Formula One World Championship in 1950. Together with the Indianapolis 500 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it forms motorsport’s famous Triple Crown. In 2027, Monaco hosts a sprint weekend for the first time, adding extra competitive action.

The circuit is the town itself. The narrow, twisting street course climbs past the Casino, plunges through the famous tunnel and curls around the harbour. It’s the slowest and tightest track on the calendar, and also, without question, the most spectacular.
The ultimate way to watch is from the deck of a superyacht in Port Hercule, with the cars screaming past just metres away. Terrace hospitality overlooking the circuit comes a close second, and no weekend is complete without an evening at the Casino de Monte-Carlo and dinner at the Hôtel de Paris.

Insider tips: Monaco’s hotels book out years ahead at huge premiums, so consider staying in Nice, Beaulieu-sur-Mer or Menton and taking the train, which takes about 25 minutes from Nice. Because overtaking here is so difficult, qualifying often decides the race, so don’t skip Saturday. Secure yacht or terrace hospitality as early as possible.
5. Royal Ascot

When: 15 to 19 June 2027 | Where: Ascot Racecourse, Berkshire, England
From the Riviera to the heart of the English summer season. Ascot Racecourse was founded in 1711 by Queen Anne, who spotted the land while out riding near Windsor Castle. More than three centuries later, the Royal Meeting is Britain’s most prestigious race week and the centrepiece of the social calendar.

Ascot lies in Berkshire, just 9.6 kilometres from Windsor Castle and less than an hour from central London, with a modern grandstand overlooking one of the most famous racecourses in the world.
Each afternoon begins with the Royal Procession, as members of the Royal Family arrive along the course in horse-drawn landaus. The racing is world-class, peaking with the Gold Cup on the Thursday, and the fashion is a spectacle all its own, from towering millinery to immaculate morning suits.

Insider tips: Know the dress codes before you go. The Royal Enclosure requires morning dress with a black or grey top hat for men, and entry requires sponsorship by an existing member. The Queen Anne Enclosure asks for a suit and tie. Trains run directly from London Waterloo, and the week pairs beautifully with a stay in Windsor or the Berkshire countryside.
6. Wimbledon

When: 28 June to 11 July 2027 | Where: All England Lawn Tennis Club, Wimbledon, London
Barely a week after Ascot, London hosts its other great summer ritual. First held in 1877, Wimbledon is the oldest tennis tournament in the world, and the only Grand Slam still played on grass. Its traditions, from the players’ all-white dress code to the Royal Box, have barely changed in well over a century, and that continuity is precisely its charm.

The All England Club sits in leafy southwest London, with Centre Court at its heart and the grassy slope known as “Henman Hill” giving fans without show-court seats a big screen and a picnic spot.
Wimbledon is as much about ritual as sport: a bowl of strawberries and cream, a glass of Pimm’s and the extraordinary hush that falls over Centre Court before a big point. The men’s and women’s finals on the closing weekend are the hottest tickets in tennis.

Insider tips: Tickets are famously hard to get. Your options are the public ballot, which opens the previous autumn, debenture seats, official hospitality or The Queue, where fans line up for same-day tickets. Take the Tube to Southfields and walk to the grounds. The first week offers the best chance to see top players up close on the outside courts.
8. Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

When: Sunday 15 August 2027 | Where: Pebble Beach Golf Links, Monterey Peninsula, California, USA
In late summer, the focus crosses the Atlantic to California’s most beautiful coastline. The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance began in 1950 and has become the world’s most prestigious classic car show. For collectors, winning Best of Show here is the highest honour there is.

The show is staged on the 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links, one of the most famous golf courses on earth, with the Pacific Ocean as its backdrop.
Around 200 of the world’s rarest and most beautiful cars line up on the lawn, judged not just on their looks but on their history and authenticity. The Concours is also the grand finale of Monterey Car Week, a week-long gathering that includes high-profile collector-car auctions, The Quail Motorsports Gathering and historic racing at Laguna Seca.

Insider tips: Arrive at dawn for “Dawn Patrol”, when the cars roll onto the fairway through the morning mist, often the most magical moment of the day. The Lodge at Pebble Beach books far ahead, so look at Carmel-by-the-Sea or Monterey as alternatives. Fly into Monterey or into San Francisco for a scenic two-hour drive down the coast.
7. Venice International Film Festival

When: Late August to early September 2027 | Where: Lido di Venezia, Venice, Italy
If Cannes is the Riviera’s great show, Venice is its quieter, more romantic rival. First held in 1932 as part of the Venice Biennale, it is the oldest film festival in the world. Its Golden Lion is one of cinema’s most coveted awards, and in recent years the festival has become a key launchpad for Oscar contenders.

The festival unfolds on the Lido, the long, narrow island that separates the Venetian Lagoon from the Adriatic, centred on the Palazzo del Cinema and the historic Hotel Excelsior.
Nowhere else do stars arrive by water taxi, and those lagoon-side red-carpet entrances are among the most romantic sights in film. Add premiere screenings, elegant parties and warm late-summer evenings in Venice, and the result is an atmosphere that feels more relaxed and refined than Cannes.

Insider tips: Stay on the Lido to be close to the action, or in Venice itself at a grand canal-side hotel, commuting by water taxi or vaporetto. Some screenings are open to the public, with tickets released closer to the festival. Pack light layers for warm days and cooler evenings on the lagoon.
8. Melbourne Cup

When: Tuesday 2 November 2027 (always the first Tuesday in November) | Where: Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne, Australia
The year closes where it began, at the races, but this time in the southern hemisphere spring. First run in 1861, the Melbourne Cup is known as “the race that stops a nation”. Cup Day is a public holiday in metropolitan Melbourne, and much of Australia pauses to watch.

Flemington Racecourse sits just a few kilometres from the city centre and is famous for the thousands of roses that bloom in time for Cup week.
The Cup is the centrepiece of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, which also includes Derby Day and Oaks Day. The Birdcage enclosure hosts the most exclusive marquee parties, while Fashions on the Field is one of the most celebrated racing style contests in the world.

Insider tips: Book hotels early, as the whole city fills up for Cup week. Trains and trams run directly to Flemington. Melbourne’s spring weather is famously unpredictable, so bring a layer. For travellers from Asia, it’s an easy trip, with many direct flights into Melbourne.
9. Vienna Opera Ball

When: Thursday 4 February 2027 | Where: Vienna State Opera, Vienna, Austria
There’s no more elegant way to open the year than with a waltz. Vienna’s ball season, which fills the winter carnival months with hundreds of balls, reaches its climax at the Opera Ball, the grandest night in the Austrian social calendar. Its roots go back to the imperial-era soirées held at the Court Opera in the 1870s, and it took its modern name in the 1930s. After the war, the event returned in 1956 in the restored opera house, and it has been the defining event of Viennese society ever since.

For one night, the Vienna State Opera, one of the world’s great opera houses, is transformed. The seats in the stalls are removed, and a dance floor is built level with the stage, creating a single vast ballroom beneath the tiers of gilded boxes. Flowers cover every surface, and around 5,000 guests fill the house, from heads of state and industrialists to celebrities and devoted waltzers.
The highlight is the opening ceremony, when around 150 debutante couples, the young women in white gowns and tiaras and the young men in tailcoats, perform a choreographed polonaise and waltz. Then comes the famous call of “Alles Walzer!” and the floor opens to everyone. The dancing continues until 5 am, with bars, a disco and supper rooms spread throughout the building.

Insider tips: The dress code is strict: white tie and tails for men, floor-length evening gowns for women. Tickets and especially boxes sell out well in advance, so plan early, and note that an entry ticket doesn’t include a seat or table. Stay nearby at the Hotel Sacher, the Imperial or the Bristol, all within a short walk of the opera house. And take a few waltz lessons before you go: Vienna’s dance schools run crash courses for ball season.
10. The Coronation Cup, Guards Polo Club

When: Late July 2027 (Saturday, date to be confirmed) | Where: Guards Polo Club, Smith’s Lawn, Windsor Great Park, England
Wimbledon may close London’s summer season, but the English social calendar saves one of its most elegant days for the end of July. The Coronation Cup, first contested in 1911, the year of George V’s coronation, is English polo’s most prestigious international trophy, pitting the England team against a visiting nation in a single high-stakes test match. For decades, it was the centrepiece of the Cartier International, and it remains the highlight of the Hurlingham Polo Association’s International Day.

The setting is quintessentially royal. Guards Polo Club lies on Smith’s Lawn in Windsor Great Park, a short drive from Windsor Castle, and counts the King as its president. Its main pitch, the Queen’s Ground, is one of the finest polo fields in the world, framed by ancient oaks and parkland.
The day builds towards the main event. A morning match between young England and a young team from a leading polo nation sets the tone, before the Coronation Cup itself gets underway in the afternoon, with its thundering hooves, fierce riding-off and ponies turning at full gallop. Between chukkas comes the time-honoured tradition of treading-in the divots, a glass of champagne in hand, and after the presentations, the party moves to the Clubhouse Lawn for après polo.

Insider tips: Hospitality packages in the Clubhouse, with a champagne reception, three-course lunch and grandstand seat, offer the most comfortable way to enjoy the day, while general admission is far more affordable if you’d rather picnic on the lawn. Dress for a smart garden party: linen suits or blazers for men, summer dresses and flat or block heels for women, since stilettos and grass don’t mix. Trains run from London Waterloo to Egham or Windsor, and a stay in Windsor makes an easy base. If you can’t make July, the Cartier Queen’s Cup final at the same club in mid-June is equally glamorous and pairs perfectly with Royal Ascot.
11. The Leela Maharaja Sawai Man Singh Polo Cup, Jaipur

When: February 2027 (dates to be confirmed) | Where: Rajasthan Polo Club, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India
If polo is the sport of kings, Jaipur is one of its spiritual homes, and no tournament captures that heritage quite like the cup named after its most celebrated player. Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II, the last ruling Maharaja of Jaipur, was one of the finest polo players of his era: in 1933, his Jaipur team swept every open tournament in England, and his romance with Gayatri Devi, later one of the most admired women in the world, famously began on a polo ground. The modern tournament, backed by The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts as title sponsor since 2022, revives that golden age with a contemporary sense of luxury.

The matches are played at the Rajasthan Polo Club, founded in 1901 as the Rajputana Polo Club with the support of the region’s princely rulers. It sits in the heart of Jaipur, a city of rose-pink palaces, bustling bazaars and hilltop forts, and the royal connection continues today. Sawai Padmanabh Singh, the Maharaja’s great-grandson and a polo player on the international circuit, has captained The Leela’s team.
Expect fast, skilful polo in the crisp Rajasthani winter, played by some of India’s leading teams and their superb ponies. The real draw, though, is the atmosphere: an audience of royalty, society figures and polo patrons, colourful turbans and couture saris, and hospitality from The Leela’s marquee, where Indian and international cuisine is served with a view of the field. It’s a rare chance to see a royal tradition still very much alive.

Insider tips: Hospitality access is typically arranged through The Leela, so enquire with The Leela Palace Jaipur, which also makes for a natural base for the week. Dress is smart and festive: a bandhgala or linen suit for men, and saris, lehengas or elegant day dresses for women, with sunglasses essential. Fly into Jaipur directly, or combine the trip with Delhi, a short flight or a four-to-five-hour drive away.
Build in a few extra days for the City Palace, Amber Fort and a jewellery-shopping expedition to Johari Bazaar, and note that February also brings the Jaipur Literature Festival’s afterglow and some of the year’s best weather.
12. Art Basel Miami Beach

When: Early December 2027 (dates to be confirmed) | Where: Miami Beach Convention Center, Miami Beach, Florida, USA
The year ends not with a whistle or a starting gate, but with a week-long celebration of art, design and parties in the Florida sunshine. Art Basel was founded in Switzerland in 1970 by a group of Basel gallerists and has since become the world’s most important art fair brand. Its Miami Beach edition launched in 2002 as an offshoot of the Swiss original and quickly became North America’s leading contemporary art fair, and the most glamorous date in the art world’s calendar.

The fair takes over the Miami Beach Convention Center in South Beach, just a few blocks from the Atlantic. But Art Basel is only the centrepiece of Miami Art Week, when around two dozen satellite fairs, museum openings and gallery shows spread across Miami Beach, Wynwood, the Design District and Downtown Miami. Right next door, Design Miami showcases collectible design, while fairs such as Untitled Art pitch their tents directly on the sand.
Inside the main fair, hundreds of the world’s leading galleries show everything from museum-quality masterpieces by modern greats to boundary-pushing work by emerging stars. For serious collectors, the invitation-only VIP preview days before the public opening are where the most important works change hands. After dark, the city becomes one long party, with brand dinners, poolside gatherings at oceanfront hotels and events on superyachts moored across Biscayne Bay.

Insider tips: Plan for the whole week, not just the fair’s three public days, as the best events and satellite fairs start several days before. Book hotels early: South Beach favourites such as Faena, The Setai and the Miami Beach Edition fill up months ahead, and prices soar. Traffic across the causeways is notoriously heavy during Art Week, so base yourself close to the events you care most about and allow extra time.
December weather is warm and dry, so pack light linens for the day and something sharper for the evening circuit.
Plan Your Year of Glamour

Few people will attend all 12 of these events in a single year, but even one can become a memory for life. The secret is planning: the best hotels, hospitality packages and tables are snapped up months, sometimes years, in advance. So choose your event, book early and, above all, dress the part.
